Make This a Chapter in My Book...

Growing up, everytime I had a good, philosphical thought, I'd shout "Make this a chapter in my book!" Well, it certainly is not a book, but it's close enough.

I've decided to document via blog all the random concepts I've come up with over the years. Having turned 21 not more than two weeks ago, I'm pretty much ready to take on the world - blog style. I really tried to fit in to the "my boyfriend dumped me, and I got a great deal on this plus I just sewed an entire wardrobe" world of blogging, but that didn't go over too well.

These posts are loaded with random (sometimes useless) facts that you can hopefully gather inspiration from! ...or atleast, a conversation starter or two. Give it a read, so that you won't be tempted to judge the "proverbial" book by its cover... or in this case, the "proverbial" blog by its URL.

Chapter 29: "Ambitious"

In the day or two left preceding the new year, why not talk about the one word that defines the epitome of the tortuous tradition known as "New Years Resolutions". This word strikes fear in the hearts of many and leaves the weak susceptible to ultimate defeat. Those who posses this word possess something far beyond "ability", because the people to whom this word is ascribed take that said "ability" to the next level leaving behind those who lack the drive and determination that these chosen ones emulate with their very being. The people are ambitious.

Ambition - it is what separates the alpha male from the rest of the pack. Ambition takes something and makes it something better. Without ambition nothing can or will be accomplished to its fullest. Potential lacking ambition is nothing for the first cannot amount to anything without the second. A person without ambition is just a body who is complacent wandering on a path that will lead them nowhere just as New Years resolutions lacking ambition are just words on a paper.

I noticed a quote today: “Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in.” When these two attributes are paired together, nearly anything is possible. The quote above is the essence of the phrase "never take no for an answer". My challenge to you is to take on something that you've not already added to your list of resolutions... something you thought was nearly impossible to accomplish in this upcoming year.

Are you not satisfied with your job? Find another one. Do you wish you could go traveling this summer? Start an intense budget now. Is there something on your long-term wish list? Make 2010 the year of realizing dreams and aspirations. I swear this ambitious streak will carry over into every other aspect of your life and each day you will sit back with a sense of accomplishment.

I was talking to a very successful man once. He told me the reason he bought what he wanted now rather than saving the money for the future was because he didn't want to be that guy who died in a car accident driving a civic leaving behind a huge savings account. It may sound shallow to you, but he. was. ambitious. If he wanted something, he got it. If he couldn't get it, he worked harder for it.

Now that mentality without ambition will drive you straight to the poor house. I'm not saying be frivolous with your income and your future, but why not live in the "present" and enjoy this time you have now? Make 2010 the year you look back on and know that it was that year that took you to where you are in the future. I have a feeling this year will be big. Not sure in what ways or how... but I feel it will be life changing - and I am so ready.

So, in conclusion, be inspired, take life by the... well, whatever you prefer and step it up a notch. Or take it to a whole new, exciting level! No one can hold you back but yourself. Don't be your own arch Nemesis! I leave you with the quote written on the shoe pictured above, "If you don't like the road you're walking, start paving another one."

2010 guys, that's where it's at.

  • Why?
Why you ask? Not sure. I've always wanted to write down the randomness I think of, and even more so I would love to see who agrees with me and the other alternatives to my ideas.
  • Because?
Because you ask? Because I want to know what YOU think! Do you agree? Can you relate? Am I totally off the deep-end? Please, feel free to post your comments and opinions; and, who knows, maybe I'll feature them in the next blog post!
