It started early last week when some man in an oversize truck started waving at me, then proceeded to tail me, and followed-up with attempting to motion for me to follow him.
Um. How about no.
Fortunately, I've got 300 ponies under the hood of a sports car weighing less than a Smart_Car (ok not really... but you get the idea) so it wasn't hard to evade the creeper.
This isn't the first time a band of creepy older men have approached me in some way/shape/form either... benefits of living right outside the Capital of the USA, I suppose. So I made up my mind...
Got my conceal carry permit for the state of Virginia last week. Now now, I know what you're thinking - "Heather, violence is not the answer." And I'd agree with you! But I seriously doubt that potentially creepy man lurking by my car in the parking lot follows our same train of thought...
So sometime over the winter break, I plan to get a pistol or semi-automatic and just have it around for safe keeping. No worries about not knowing how to use it either, because I've gotten numerous offers from people willing to take me out to the local range for some target practice.
Scary? Yes. Necessary? I think so at least. Would hate to be that article in the newspaper that causes all the people reading it to just *sigh* and say "Well, it was too bad she didn't have some way to protect herself from him..."
Women and men both, I think it's a great idea... when used the right way for the right reasons. Like they always say, "It's not guns that kill people, it's people that kill people."
Weird post, I know... must be 'cause it's humpday. :P meh.
Man, there are some creepy guys out there. Like did he really think you were going to follow him?! I think if you know how to use a gun properly and you feel like you need to carry one around, then you should. I've got to admit, there's a part of me who would love to be looking for something in my purse and pull out my sunglasses case, diary, car keys, gun... "Oh, yeah. That's my gun."
And to help combat the shittiness of hump-day, at work we re-named it Krump Day and throughout the day, if someone is feeling a little on edge, someone else busts out some krumping and it cheers the freaking hell up out of everyone! Give it a go next Hump Day. (For the record, I do not krump. I'm just not that coordinated for such an aggressive style of dance!)
Oh Heather, you poor thing! I had a similar experience with a man pulling up next to me while I was walking home to my apartment one night in college He pulled up next to me and repeatedly offered me a right home, to which I said, "Get the F#*%K away from me!" What makes this a unique story is that the man was wearing a peach, lacy bra and matching panty.
I was wishing I could pull something out of my bag that was more threatening that my collection of gel pens! Good for you!
LOL both ya'll comments made me laugh out loud!
Elise... I know, as "responsible" as I try to sound about getting a gun, the little kid inside me wants to bust out some Karate Kid kung-fu move and shout "I've Gotta Gun!" ...we never will grow up, will we? :D LOL about this "krump day" ... I'm totally stealing it. Not going to lie, I had to google is. Defintion: KRUMP is an acronym for Kingdom of Radically Uplifted Mighty Praise. AWESOMENESS!
Emily... hahahaha about the gel pens... and hahahaha followed by an omgwtf about the pink bra and matching panties??! PLEASE tell me you have a blog post about that one! I MUST READ!!!!
Sad thing is there are some rather non-pleasant people out and about so having your concealed weapons permit makes a lot of sense. I applied for mine right after my birthday back in January just in case.
As long as you take someone up on the offer of lessons so you don't hurt yourself/someone else by accident, then more power to you.
Hmmm I just stumbled upon this blog- what a great post to help me frame it up...
I'm not going to lie I'm scared.
Odd Duck... Totally agreed. Scary people out there these days! And just like you said, it's nice to know you have it. No worries, I'm going out with an experienced friend this week to learn how to shoot!
Dmbosstone... haha don't mean to scare you! ... but truth be told, I'm rather scared myself haha! hope you like the blog though ;)
