Make This a Chapter in My Book...

Growing up, everytime I had a good, philosphical thought, I'd shout "Make this a chapter in my book!" Well, it certainly is not a book, but it's close enough.

I've decided to document via blog all the random concepts I've come up with over the years. Having turned 21 not more than two weeks ago, I'm pretty much ready to take on the world - blog style. I really tried to fit in to the "my boyfriend dumped me, and I got a great deal on this plus I just sewed an entire wardrobe" world of blogging, but that didn't go over too well.

These posts are loaded with random (sometimes useless) facts that you can hopefully gather inspiration from! ...or atleast, a conversation starter or two. Give it a read, so that you won't be tempted to judge the "proverbial" book by its cover... or in this case, the "proverbial" blog by its URL.

Chapter 5: The First Step

So I've done it - I have decided to take my own advice and jump head first (ok, maybe feet first) into the hopefully ludicrous world of commercial real estate. Who knows, maybe you'll be inspired and decide to do the same; ergo, I will document this process by steps!

  • Step 1: The Beginning

To earn a commerical real estate license, most states require that you take some sort of online classes to earn a certificate of completion which will then allow you to register for the state examination. Now, from what I can tell, this class isn't focused on just commercial real estate but is rather focused on real estate in its entirety. I think the specifications as to which division of real estate you intend to continue in is made at the state exam level.

The online school of choice for me currently is Allied Online Educational Programs which has been most helpful in answering my questions. Here are the guidelines (for my state):

"You must be 18 years of age or older and have completed 60 hours of courses that were approved by the state commission. These hours are known as your pre-license. You will need to pass a final proctored exam with a score of 70% or higher and then pass the state exam. Every 2 years you are required to take 16 hours of state approved courses. Eight of the sixteen hours need to be: Ethics and standards of conduct, legal update and emerging trends, real estate agency and real estate contracts. The other 8 courses are considered electives and need to be in related and approved subjects."

Not too hard, right? I'll continue to update my progress once I've enlisted in the online courses. This week or next, I plan on meeting with a commercial real estate agent that has worked with my father in the past in hopes to gain helpful insight from someone who is already apart of the field. If I happen to gain anything worth repeating, I will certainly pass it along!

I hope you, the reader, find inspiration through this and maybe decide to change things up... remember: high risk = high return!

My Book

  • Why?
Why you ask? Not sure. I've always wanted to write down the randomness I think of, and even more so I would love to see who agrees with me and the other alternatives to my ideas.
  • Because?
Because you ask? Because I want to know what YOU think! Do you agree? Can you relate? Am I totally off the deep-end? Please, feel free to post your comments and opinions; and, who knows, maybe I'll feature them in the next blog post!
